This species is deciduous and the new growth rises in early spring shortly after which, the flowers emerge. Leaves are flushed deep reddish-bronze when young but colour up to a fresh green when mature. To add to the interest, the leaves have irregular deep red flecks to the upper surface which are quite visible at the yound stage.
Flowers are borne in short racemes, are a pale pink colour colour with long spurs, and hang pendulously from upright stems.
